Individual Therapy

Our clinic offers one-on-one counselling for individuals 14 years and older. I take a special interest in working with individuals who struggle with anxiety, adverse childhood experiences, life transitions, relationship distress, and low self esteem.

How It Works

01.

It can be extremely nerve wracking to book in for your first counselling session. It’s important for you to know that we always meet our clients where they are at!

The initial session is a chance for you and your therapist to get to know one another better and see if you will be a good fit to work together.

02.

During the first meeting you and your therapist will discuss what has been happening in your life lately and what has prompted you to begin therapy at this time. Together you will explore many aspects of your life, including your family of origin, your childhood, and any significant life events that have occurred. This helps your therapist get to know YOU and understand your experience!

03.

From here you will work with your therapist to begin to dive deeper into the thoughts, emotions, and experiences that you are struggling with. Together you work to identify the patterns that are holding you back in your life and begin working to understand the motivations for engaging in these patterns and the underlying fears that may be perpetuating them. Once you have awareness of what your patterns are, when they are triggered, and how they hinder you, we work to find ways for you to begin taking steps to change them.

Our specific approach varies depending on each client’s unique needs and difficulties. We are primarily rooted in attachment theory and mainly draw from Emotionally Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Internal Family Systems.

Many insurance plans include coverage under extended health benefits for counselling with a Registered Psychotherapist and/or Registered Social Worker.

Unfortunately, since insurance plans are unique and vary across employers and employees, it is impossible to speak to what each individual’s plan would cover. Please confirm with your insurance provider what your specific coverage is prior to your initial session.

It may be helpful to confirm the following information with your benefits provider:

  •  Do they cover a Registered Psychotherapist/Registered Social Worker?
  • What percentage of the session cost is reimbursed per session?
  • What is your total coverage amount for the year (overall maximum)?
*Please note: Once payment is received a receipt will be sent to you through email. Clients are responsible for submitting paid receipts to their own insurance as well as understanding the limits of their insurance coverage. Insurance claims that are rejected are not refundable.

Your story is unique, your therapy should be too! We work together with clients to decide on a frequency that feels best for them at this time.

Ideally, we recommend beginning with weekly sessions as this provides good momentum in building a solid therapeutic relationship while addressing your most distressing concerns.

Throughout our work together your therapist will consistently check in with you to gauge how you are feeling about the process and your progress. When clients begin to experience corrective change, the frequency of visits are reduced. Eventually we will transition from weekly sessions to bi-weekly sessions, and then once a month.

Nothing is ever set in stone. If your needs change, you are always able to request an increase or decrease in your frequency of visits.

There is a 24-hour cancellation policy. If a session is cancelled within 24 hours of the scheduled start time, the full session fee will be applied.
