How It Works

01.

Taking The First Step

It can feel nerve-wracking to book your first counselling session. We always meet you where you are at, and the initial session is a chance for us to get to know each other and see whether we’re a good fit to work together.

02.

Beginning The Work

During your first meeting, you and your therapist will talk about what’s been going on in your life and what has brought you to therapy at this time. This may include exploring your family background, early experiences, and important life events to help your therapist better understand your story.

03.

Going Deeper

From here, we begin to explore the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that may be keeping you stuck. Together, we work to understand what drives these patterns, how they show up in your life, and begin creating space for change and new ways of responding.

Frequently Asked Questions

At Wellington County Therapy, we offer a range of therapy options to meet your needs. Fees start at $115 with our student intern and range up to $170+ with our clinical director.

We accept e-transfer and major credit cards for all psychotherapy services in Fergus. A valid credit card is required to self-register online. This credit card will be securely stored in your Jane account, the online booking software used, and charged upon the completion of your session. Payment is typically completed at the time of your session, and receipts are provided for your records.

Many insurance plans include coverage under extended health benefits for Reigstered Psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist and/or Registered Social Worker. You’ll need to check with your provider directly to confirm coverage before starting therapy in Fergus or anywhere across Ontario.

Unfortunately, since insurance plans are unique and vary across employers and employees, it is impossible to speak to what each individual’s plan would cover. Please confirm with your insurance provider what your specific coverage is prior to your initial session.

It may be helpful to confirm the following information with your benefits provider:

  •  Do they cover a Registered Psychotherapist/Registered Social Worker?
  • What percentage of the session cost is reimbursed per session?
  • What is your total coverage amount for the year (overall maximum)?
*Please note: Once payment is received a receipt will be sent to you through email. Clients are responsible for submitting paid receipts to their own insurance as well as understanding the limits of their insurance coverage. Insurance claims that are rejected are not refundable.

We understand that life can be unpredictable, and we strive to hold space with care and respect for everyone’s time. We ask for at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your session. Late cancellations (less than 24 hours) are subject to the full session fee. You’re welcome to cancel or reschedule by contacting your therapist directly via email or through your online Jane account.

Your story is unique, your therapy should be too! We work together with clients to decide on a frequency that feels best for them at this time.

Ideally, we recommend beginning with weekly or bi-weekly sessions as this provides good momentum in building a solid therapeutic relationship while addressing your most distressing concerns.

Throughout your time in therapy, your
therapist will consistently check in with you to gauge how you are feeling about the process and your progress. When clients begin to experience corrective change, the frequency of visits are reduced. Eventually you will transition from weekly or bi-weekly, to every three weeks, or monthly, based on your needs and goals.

If your needs change, you are always able to request an increase or decrease in the frequency of your visits.

Beginning therapy can feel like a vulnerable step, and for many people it’s something they’ve been considering for a long time before reaching out. This is especially true when navigating anxietyrelationship challengestrauma, or starting EMDR therapy.

The first session can be daunting, and nerve wracking, especially if this is your first experience in therapy. Your first session is best approached as an information gathering session, both for yourself and your therapist. Your therapist will begin by exploring what brings you into therapy at this point in your life and the changes you are seeking from therapy. The first session is also a good opportunity for you to determine if the therapist is a good match for you. Come exactly as you are. Our therapists offer a warm, genuine environment and will meet you at whichever point you are at in your healing journey. Please have your intake form filled out prior to your appointment time to make the most of your session.
